Resume for hire

by Elizabeth Jill

l. Not good at singling anyone out for a stone's target.

     • leave this to the experts.
• I myself am a stone's target.

ll. Not good at hanging from shiny chandeliers.
     • leave this to the experts.
• prefer lighting a candle.

lll. Not good at final theory.
     • leave this to the experts.
• final theories chill me, after all

llll. Not good at resuming.
     • leave this to the experts.
• where was I?

lllll. Not good at circles.
     • leave this to the experts.
• include me out.

llllll. Not good at checkmate.
     • leave this to the experts.
• dislike and refuse war,
whether it be bombs, guns,
mockery, chess, or words.

lllllll. Love lightning, love surge protectors.
     • admire the creator.

llllllll. Love imagery.
     • see above

Directions

Fold into paper airplane.

Fly in the face of danger.

I love the playful banter in this poem, and the depth it reaches in the midsection, like a soul exposed, like a personality, this poem...esp. loved: stanzas 1,3,4, and 5...I feel a connection to them...thank you and well done, jewels

Clever structure and delightful read, ms. jill, tho' I'm no expert. : )

You blew me away with this, Jill ... from how you completely went outside the box with your numbering, system to negating those things that should naturally be negated in the first place.

Oh, and I forgot to mention the title ... yes, the title, "Resume for Hire" rather than gun for hire. You rock!

Such honesty in a resume? Have I ever laid eyes on such a thing prior to this? The odd Roman numerals at first caused a raised eyebrow, but then a giggle. It fits w/ the humour of the piece. Absolutely love the last 3 lines - I'm tempted to print and fling one off my balcony!

Quite the clever and impressive resumé! Can you start on Monday???

oh I love the resumé format! and the roman numerals that trail off into hash marks! and every word in this. but I really love the resumé format, wish I'd thought of it myself! and subtly anti-war to boot! I can just see thousands of these paper airplanes littering the white house lawn. that would probably be dangerous though....

well said and all that jazz! :)

Hi Elizabeth, Great write. this quite different from your others works. I like style, resume. It's something new and refreshing in it's own way. Quite clever too. It's emotional, powerful. Hiring you, shouldn't be any problem. Lots of Hugs. :)

As it's the resumé that's for hire, I imagine many admirers but few takers; an irony reflected in the social conflict engendered by anti-war movements -- in spite of ourselves, we spite ourselves. Ignore me, I'm on a rocky roll :>)

I would just once in my life like to actually meet someone who called themselves an expert. I wonder what it takes to do that... a big ego, a lot of skill, overarching confidence, courage? Much better to be willing to fly in the face of danger. Now that's a real recommendation. Clever arrangement and thought provoking.

it requireth not an expert to know that to spend a thousand iotas gazing upon you filling out this resume is light well spent.
