Hand Held World by Kristina Woodhill
All who
see
read
hear
Welcome!
You'll have
the whole world
in your hands
Behold!
as finger swipes
technology's god's
waiting palm
Instagram
Sleep cycle
Clue
Grammarly
news about to happen
Can
it
be
true?
Message me
at any time,
just be your selfie,
I'll be mine
Your opposable thumbs
will hang on every
symbol,
photo,
emo ji,
ping ponged
faster than Forest Gump's
manic paddle
There is a virus
in this jungle,
nurses shaking thermometers,
doctors seeking heart beats,
stethoscopes gone deaf
Escher would draw
a head in a cloud
within a cloud,
the lens of awareness
fogged
clogged
mobbed by
3” x 6” scenes
or picture,
marching
detached feet
clomp, clomp, clomping
along
endless
roadsides
frantic floating hands
waving for attention,
tense street lights
always flashing yellow
Tommy, can you hear me?
Betty, can you see me?
Alvin?
Jose?
Gerte?
Abdul?

Posted by Philip F De Pinto on 08/03/18 at 12:38 PM What a fangled, doo-dad world we live in. Wish it weren't so. Wish there was room in it for a Huck Finn, Tom Sawyer type person like myself to still abide in, innocently and without the technological hassle following me around like a picket fence needing to be constantly whitewashed. Love your poem, Kristina. It is scrumptuously imaginative and clever. |
Posted by Glenn Currier on 08/03/18 at 12:55 PM Your poem reminds me of the importance of making decisions toward trying to keep it simple while using the technology for the important things like staying in touch with the people I love. But all the punching and waving that you so imaginatively describe can be a distraction. I am so easily distracted anyway, WITHOUT all the devices. What I like about your poetry is the way you seem to easily and naturally let the words flow along with your imagination. Yes, flow is the word. And baby, you do it! Thanks. |
Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 08/03/18 at 02:55 PM Pleasantly overwhelmed by this piece, Kristina. A cavalcade of images and sound bits. I do see a certain irony in this one. How did your fellow poets respond to it? |
