As Freedom Feigns

by Clara Mae Gregory

Lady Liberty lost.

At what cost?

We weep in woe-be-gone days

Whilst the winds reign on the plains,

Dwindling on a divided highway

Where it finally wanes,

As Freedom feigns its way to

the divide of outworn wisdom

eluding the false Albatross,

where the purity of truth

became just a lie

whitewashed.

"Dwindling on a divided highway" - I especially loved this line. Sober thoughts here.

It seems there is both light and loss here. Almost a grief about what once was. I like the metaphor of "a divided highway." Thanks for this, Clara Mae.
