Ventriloquist

by Kristina Woodhill

He threw a voice to the baby
Chuckled at the babble

Bubbling up, popping freely
From astounded fish lips

Sounds leaping from a swinging uvula perch
Erupting from the tiny moist cave

Benign firecracker consonants
Kissing long lazy “a's”

Echo,
echo,

Echo,
echo

Meaty tongue pushing and pulling
Sound bites, tasting word prefixes

Savoring each sweet head-over
Tumbling suffix

Life-long connections
Rushing to meet for the first time

So very lovely Kristian. I have a new grand daughter who is just 4 months old and my daughter swears she is trying to talk. We also have a new grand son who just turned one. He is starting to walk and is about as advanced as I was in the 3rd grade. Very nice lady.

Nice, Kristina. What's more precious? Thank you for giving the experience voice...fond are the reminiscences. And well accomplished here in form and function...what a great way to write and "echo"! Thank you.

I too appreciate the way you have eloquently, swimmingly voiced the experience. Again I am reminded with what precision a poet listens. Thanks for the frolic and the moment.

This is so cute and precious. "life-long connections" could mean relationship, experience, thought...a lovely write. Thanks for sharing!

Refreshingly different Kristina. Who can resist the inclusion of a baby and all they're prone to do?

so much to gather here in this garden of earthly delights, all of it garbed in the most exquisite language. this ode is a virtual and veritable feast for the eyes and the heart and the spirit.
