Thus so (Autumn)

by Elizabeth Jill

up
the stairwell comes to fall
down
amid life's curtain call
true to north
and just as swept
back
those angry tyrants kept
frothing
dangers round us pooled
menaced
rusted, often fooled
thus so
to Autumn hence we leap
beside
the notes that poets keep
and, knowing this,
we finally cry:
"The earth is turning, letter fly."

You remain pretty much my favorite poet ever. What an effortless, almost liquid flow this has. Perfect word choices at every turn. Beautiful.

Oh my word. The last six lines.... Absolute perfection. Letter fly... I have to commiserate with Stephan. I ADORE word play, so you're perfection here made my day! Love it.

And so we shall write these wrongs and letter fly, birdatious words aloft, some winging south, some circling with shaven heads and pecking eyes. (tweet) Loved this. Thanks.

Stimulating play on words here Jill. Another goodie from and to my favorite time of year. Thanks for passing this on to us. :o)

I agree with Vince, this is effortless but not sterile, keeping the poignancy and the amber warmth and the near-brittle tang of such a shift...

I like the motion in your poem. I tried to do some work on the laptop in the backyard the other day and so many leaves were falling, I was afraid it would ruin the machine. Oh well... should have been just enjoying the turning of the earth anyway sans technology. Thanks Elizabeth.

Rhythms, cycles, tides -- we fall for that which gives us rise :> Return soon...

letter fly! your heart that is, did fly no need to wonder Y? no mystery - your heart has wings, their mastery o'er such wings is evident in each word you letter fly to the letter and the center of our heart converged upon each word as unafraid of flying as you've ever heard.

We'd be hardpressed to find a more melancholic morsel with a motivational twist such as this. I especially like the play on words in the last line. Pref...
