Sapphire Soul

by Glenn Currier

You emerged
from the womb of life
a wiggling crying brown-eyed girl
fighting for YOUR minutes
in the gaggle gathered at table.

You in your enfolding
childhood with kittens
whose love saved you
from the fighting teen brothers
trying to be men.
You a Self from the stricken
pieces of that puzzle.

Your ship fueled
with bright passion
making great waves
with your sure voice
into a frothy whiteness.

You cruised into our lives
churning our days
with laughter and love
born from the depths
of your sapphire soul.

Author's Note: On our recent cruise to the southern Caribbean, realizing only after on board that I had forgotten to get my wife a birthday card, I wrote this while sitting on our balcony looking out on that beautiful deep blue sea. She said she was glad to have this as a substitute for the card... which was fine with me... it gave me another opportunity to write a poem to and about my one true love.

What a spendid way to wish your wife happy birthday. It comes from deep inside and is filled with emotional sensitivity. Happy Birthday Mother Currier. ;-)

how fortunate is Mrs. Currier? fortunate, I tell you, fortunate! The Caribbean pales in comparison to the hue of that luck. These words tribute more than a person or a place or a felling, but are indicative of a soul who loves his words as much as any he would trip upon an altar or sea. see I told you she was lucky. and so is Glenn!

This is beautiful. Much better than a card.

Glenn, CONGRATULATIONS on POTD! I hope Mrs Currier treats you to a special dinner tonight (uh, not a microwave dinner) ;-)

I smiled when I read this beautiful poem, assuming it was for a Septemeber birthday (that birthstone is a sapphire). With your authors note this becomes exquisite! Happy Birthday to your wife!
