pour me a poet

by Maria Francesca

pour me a poet
into my cup;
send me reeling with rhyme,
let his words fill me up

pour me a tall one,
a dark one
and sharp
with a mind like an arrow,
a voice like a harp

keep your liars
and charmers,
all shiny and varnished,
your war-loving knights,
armor bloody and tarnished;

send me beauty and language,
let words fill me up;
pour me a poet
into my cup.

Yea, but watch out for them poets! (I like the poem)

Love this! I looked long into that empty cup and wished... and found him tipped with silver hair and beard and magic in his fingertips, a bard of soul, ravisher and tender. He fills my cup and heats the handle too.

Maria, yes..you have looked into my mind and written what you didn't know was there. The 3rd stanza I like especially, since there appears to be many of those liars out there. I love it!

Most enjoyable POTD! Clever word play with a smart rhyme. Thank you!

Anyone could guess that I would LOVE your poem, and it sums up my feelings, exactly. You have put it so perfectly, with such loving language and images... I should frame your poem and put it over our (real weekly) Thursday night poets' table when I serve the "poets to the moon" and in my (dream fantasy) poem by poem "cottage in the woods"...too.

What poet would not love to be in your cup? Oustanding imagery and flow. This would get ovations at open mics, not to mention requests or dates....
