Lepidopteran

by Chris Sorrenti

within the walls

of this fragile husk

a miracle takes form

molecules collapse

reorganize themselves

to perfection

unseen

beneath a cocoon

of flesh and bones

battered by elements

natural and man made

till the day

a beautiful creature

unrecognizable

from which it began

emerges

to stretch wings

toward Heaven

always one of my fav. subjects of yours, and poems, and I still have my framed version of the Lythrum with butterfly on my best bookcase for all my best collections of books, publications I'm in, etc. Great to see this. I'll be going to the Niagara Butterfly Sanctuary if I get to the launch in Niagara in Oct. We read right near there.

Hi Chris. Yes, what the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the Master calls a butterfly. The way they seem to dance in mid-air and their colors, they are truly flying flowers. Great poem. Thanks.

A fresh telling of the metamorphosis, a telling that never gets old. Lovely illustration.

This is a beautiful description of this marvelous process. I'm always humbled and amazed at this change.

The title flew me to Google and the poem to a sense of awe and humility in the face of the miracles of nature. I couldn't help but think about the way members of our own species often come out of the brown batterings of life life to a more beautiful form. The author of this poem a case in point. Lovely poem, Chris.

Not many things quite as beautiful as the simple butterfly nor as complex as its metamorphosis. All wonderfully described here...

I am always in awe of this phenomena, and you captured it so well in this poem. I also love the picture.

A beautiful piece you have here Chris (along with the picture) - the Lepidopteran has both such literal and metaphorical beauty, and you have captured both in my mind.

this reorganization of molecules and wings flapping towards heaven, are something much wished for. hopefully this reorganization brings out the better in me and hopefully these wings are my own and not waxen so I can make that trip with the utmost confidence.
