ThereÂs a road, ahead of the last lamppost. by Ashok ShardaTheres a road
Ahead of the last lamppost.
Have you ever been there?
No one goes
No one knows.
Sliding out of my dreams
I had this glimpse
Landing right on this road
Which was illuminating on its own
The time had virtually stopped
Prompting me to walk unwalked
Aloof, aware and bewildered
I walked unwalked
From nowhere to nowhere.
Since there wasnt anywhere
It was there, just there
Irrelative, unseen, everywhere.
Alas! This turned out to be yet another dream
My legs, used to the beaten streaks,
Brought me back into my old dreams.
Though Passive and inert
But having seen the glimpse
Now I keep on dreaming
Of walking out of the dreams.
Have I lost all the possibilities of being?
I can, I know, still arrive
Step, in step with the time
But the life situations are distracting
Nature unrelenting
And time is so illusive that
When I think
I am step in step with it
I find, in the end
That I remained inert, all through it
Where as it has completed its run
Living me stranded
Within the four walls of my dreams.
Will some body some day
Hold my hands
And lead me
To this unknown road
Ahead of the last lamppost?
No one goes
No one knows.
Theres a road
Ahead of the last lamppost.

Posted by Glenn Currier on 01/11/04 at 09:17 PM This beautiful poem gives me a feeling of longing and lonliness, but it also says to me that there is always the choice to be here now, to stay on the present road, ready for what might appear in the darkness ahead. Thanks, Ashok, this is delightful and a good companion to Alejandra's piece. It looks like you are walking that road together, never mind the limitations of space. |

Posted by Agnes Eva on 01/12/04 at 06:01 PM a road to go to in your dreams... where magic happens in unexpected, untravelled places. yes someone can bring you to it. or you may have to stumble onto it without trying. |
Posted by David R Spellman on 01/13/04 at 05:32 PM A lot of depth, as always, in your writing. So much to dwell on here. Another excellent look into the wonder and mystery of the human condition. |

No one knows.
Yes, perhaps not until we die, can we venture beyond that last lamppost. Thanks for the reminder dear sir. |
