Can I Be Your Moon?

by Anne Engelen

I wonder....

If the moon could feel

“really” FEEL

would she envy the sun?

Would she hate the fact

that when she glows

itÂ’s merely a reflection of sunlight?

How would she feel about

the times sheÂ’s up there

yet nobody can see her?

I believe...

If the moon could feel

“really” FEEL

She would be more real

than a sun could ever be.

I‘m like the moon

When I shine

itÂ’s the reflection of the light

of the suns in my universe

I have a dark sideÂ’s existence

underneath a superficial glow

I gather sunshine

bundle that in moonbeams

to touch you in darker times

You are my sun

Can I be your moon ?

such fascinating questions, our shadowed moon must be blushing from the attention. Superb.

I love this. Identifying with the moon, she is a beauty in her own right.

i love this poem...it's beautiful...the only thing i don't like is when you say "like really feel"...the word "like" kind of seems out of place...dumbs it down a bit...otherwise it's awesome...

I love the gentle beauty here, and the honesty. I wonder if we are not all reflections of those we love and they us...

As I read this, I was listening to 'Sail To The Moon' - extraordinary co-incidence, but this is an extraordinary piece. In the cold light of evening, I prefer your lyric :>]

Oh my God, this is beautiful. It fills me with awe. This is a truly great poem. Last night I looked up at the moon and noticed it with particular fascination. Little did I know that moment was a connection with you and your spiritgift. This has to be a poem of the day. It is certainly MY POEM OF THE DAY. Thanks, love.

Such an elegant statement of the ancient union of women and the moon. An excellent read, as usual, Anne.

This reminds me of that that balcony scene in Shakespears Romeo and Juliet, with the moon being envious of the sun. You're advocated the moons side pretty well here. Or I could be rambling.

to answer your question simply, yes. lovely, Anne, this poem. it brills as celestial fodder never could.

A wonderful pondering of light and reflection, and the second half and ending are so enjoyably affectionate. You've given it an exceptional flow, conversational really, I could imagine it being said and hearing the emotional quality of each word. I can't really think of anything to offer in terms of tweaks or improvements, it's really just right.

So many compliments on this poem, and all deserved. I love the personality you put into the moon if it could feel. (Really feel, that is ;) )

Well, we are all like moon reflecting our surroundings. Our suns. Interestingly there's a doctrine which claims that the purpose of the man is to 'enliven' the moon so that it can FEEL like earth. So it will be the moon who would 'live' and reflect man's energy and thats Life Force.'You are my sun Can I be your moon ? to touch you in darker times' The reciprocation of the energy source is so beautifully depicted in such perfect analogy.

this is an amazing and very creative piece

There's a bit of moon in all of us in a reflective sense, eh! This introspective piece reminds me of the maxim that states, darkness cannot exist where there is light. I very much like the positive feel and warmth eminating from this illuminating poem, Anne. Pe4ce...

Congrats on a well deserved POTDl. Love the line about being touched in darker times, it is in the darkest moment that the need arises.

"You are my sun Can I be your moon ?" and who would dare say 'no' to such candid a question when to be the sun of such a moon is a privilege!? I love the way you 'wonder' and then with such pureness speak of the way you 'are'. Incantevole! Enchanting. Lovely to find this beautiful Moon in PPS skies. Congratulations! ... *m.a
