My Voices Talk to Each Other

by Kristine Briese

If you should find me
      swollen and distended,
giving birth to death
      which I forbade you,
begging that my
      agony be ended,
and screaming that
      reality betrayed you

Let not such bitter
      lunacies dissuade you
from seeking out the death
      that you intended;
they are only dreams
      for which I made you
to keep my shattered mind
      from being mended.

Author's Note: This doesn't make much sense, but that's okay. I didn't so much write it as be haunted by it; I'm hoping that posting it will get it out of my head.

Haunting indeed! The rhyme connected with the words and meanings are etherial and thought-provoking. Your poem forces me to go within for MY meaning as I imagine yours... a high compliment to your creativity. This is brilliant. Thank goodness for this haunting and your decision to share it.

makes sense to me...I love it...

It is definitely a disturbed and disturbing piece, Kris. I'd say you were successful in mirroring the text off the title. Hope writing and posting it helped clear your mind. :o)

It's scarey to admit it, but I get it. YIKES! ;) Excellent description of dealing with inner voices.

Haunting discussion between two different streams of thought!

Any re-visit to your library is like seconds at the smorgesboard and one can only wonder what your delicious mind will serve up next. A veritable psyche banquet. This one a delicacy. Peace...

i'm just waiting for the other voice to start quoting scripture. *grins* this is priceless, my friend. how the insanity eats at us all.

Me thinks, not only Edgar Allen Poe, but Shaspeare must be smiling knowingly at this complex poem.

'giving birth to death' this intricate poem mirrors an intricate mind.

Irony in symmetry.
