Brief Moments in Time

by Kristina Woodhill

She envied the pig weather vane
poised atop its highest hope

just before the miracle

Author's Note: My colleague poet tells me I need to learn to condense and cut out the chaff. Practicing.

I like this piece, Kristina, for its brevity; leaves enough for the imagination to fill in the blanks. Chaff, interesting word. I've also heard fluff used also to describe excess wordage.

I can see you seeing this and seeing the poem in this. I need to remove the chaff too. Good advice from your friend.

Love this condensation, Kristina, albeit chaff has its place. It is not necessarily the foe, the too many trees that are not allowing the forest to be seen. As far as I know, I never saw chaff in your work, but a plenitude of substance. In other words, the porridge of your work is just right. This man’s palate is not complaining of scald, frigidity, or humdrum ness. The poem needs what a poem needs, be it take a single step or a million. The cure is not in the size but in what the heart wishes fully to express. And yours, Kristina is quite the heart express!
