Idealist by Chris Sorrenti
Maybe I am still an idealist
incurable romantic
at least part of the time
especially when Eartha
my Calico snuggles up beside me
on the couch to watch TV
Sometimes she looks up at the staircase
or better stares
as if watching something…someone?
yet in no way alarmed
I look up too
but can’t see anything
though thankfully
do have quite an imagination
They say animals
like small children
are hypersensitive to the invisible
not spoiled yet by the system
of fitting round pegs into square holes
And like the awoken dreamer I am
prone to believe
animals can be possessed
for short periods of time at least
by the spirits of departed loved ones
their faces...smiles...hugs
as real as Eartha’s purr

Posted by Philip F De Pinto on 12/13/18 at 11:27 AM Love your poem, Chris. It would be quite the trip to know what others besides ourselves are seeing into what we presume is blank space. I suppose cameras are visionaries of sorts in that they detect what the human eye cannot in a given time and place. Looks like Casper the friendly ghost to me. |
Posted by Glenn Currier on 12/14/18 at 06:05 PM I guess I am an idealist too. I like your appreciation and sympatico with cats and animals... it says something good about your character. I have found cats to be very tuned into and sensitive to humans' emotions. I like the idea that the spirits of those passed appear in cats. Interesting idea. I'll have to tune in more in the future to THEIR little beingness. Thanks Chris. |
