Sapphire Sadness

by Clara Mae Gregory

In the nebulous night,
the moon's pearly smirch
emblazing with shine,
becomes pallid and plain
as a dimmed starflame
goes drab and ashen.
Diffused in sapphire sadness,
the memories vanish
within the cloud's rain,
grief casts upon the planet.

Superb juxtaposition between light and darkness, Clara Mae. Reminds me of this summer of hurricanes.

An elegant description of a grim scenario. Sapphire sadness is a vivid phrase and I do like thinking about a moon's smirch. Thanks!

I like the phrase, sapphire sadness, it forces me to think of the dark and the light and how they mix. This is a favorite theme of my own poetry. The moon has the ability to cast humans into a variety of moods. Sometimes I wonder if God put it there for poets. Thanks, Clara Mae. It is good to be back on these pages.
