Heard from a Bird

by Kristina Woodhill

cranberry soup
cranberry soup
cranberry soup

everyone claims
they hear

coo coo coo

coo coo coo

coo coo coo

but I tell you
on the clear summer air
when a calm morning winks

when the glove dives deep
and thistles
twist and squirm

a meditative gardener
with the focus
of a yogi

lets down her guard
startled to discern
a dove's fondest wish

cranberry soup
cranberry soup
cranberry soup

Shades of Willy the Shake. A lovely and endearing ode you've writ here, Kristina.
