Isabelle

by George Hoerner

Izzy they will call you
not even a year
into life and you’ve
been thrown from the
comfort of a womb
into a cruel world
you must learn to navigate

choose carefully the path
try what you will but
maintain the ability to change
think about those who
tell you ‘to’ or ‘not to’ change
and accept the attribute of ‘chance’
think about lies and as an
after thought wonder
who you might believe

love everything as that
is all everything deserves
tip your toe in the ‘stuff’ of life
try to disparage nothing as
everything means something
to someone
champion what you believe
but force it on no one

remember there will always be
more things you do not know
than things that you do know

George. You have written quite the Bible on how a human being of any size or proportion should take this world and all who abide within. Needless to say, this ode should be POTD, this very day if not sooner.

Your poem in its gentleness and good will makes me wonder if I ever got such a gift from an elder. I am sure I did and most probably thought at the time, "Nice" and then quickly moved on to important things to do. Thee is a sweetness and tenderness in this piece that spreads in me a sense of gratitude and grace. Thank you dear sir. On a more mundane note, George, after returning to this site I have noticed that the Instant Messaging function doesn't seem to be working, nor the ability to change my "information" on my account. Do you know anything about this?

Congratulations, George, on POTD.
