Santa Claus Report to Curious Philip

by Kristina Woodhill

I could pretend,
answering your queries
with Sword-in-the-Stone definitives
the when
the how
the magical
methodology
providing
an already
dreamed-up end result
apparently desperately
needed

I could waffle
or scramble a few eggs
sending spatters
of tales and tiny factoids
trailing down
your tidy kitchen walls
as we blindly
blame it all on the elves
because, allegedly,
isn't that what they are for?

Wishes and fishes
and dishes and cliches
and wishes and more
and more because more

Only a frigid fool
would not conjure
a Mrs. Claus
on a cold winter's eve

Wright brothers
once said
watching birds
to learn how to fly
is like watching a magician
to learn how
to do magic

wands do their
wandering,
minds do their
pondering,
combined
one can fathom
a reindeer in flight

as for chimneys,
truth seeker,
don't get me started;
some nut thought
a free sweep
would fit
well with gifts

apologies to St. Nick
that warm hearted soul
alive for a short time
a long time ago
example to live by
gifting with love
his riches he shared
his riches he shared

some folks believe
what's in front of their noses
some conjure tricksters
who pull thorns from roses
poking what's true
with a whole lot of holeses
while gaping with teeth
oh, so sharp and prepared

I simply adore this ode, Kristina. So glad I sent out invitations. So glad you accepted.

Witty, playful - fun read from start to finish, Kristina. This should be entered in a contest...definitely published.

Fantastic all the way through! I agree wholeheartedly with Chris's comment above!
