Prompted to Wait by Kristina Woodhill
When Mark Twain
sent me the raft from Huckleberry Finn,
I began waiting
40 days and nights
for the rains to start
filling my grand expectations,
remembering after 20
that I had read the wrong book
and,
regrettably,
had to let all the animals go.
12/12/2015 Author's Note: Challenge at my poetry meet-up: Write a poem where a literary figure shows up and tells you something and/or gives you something.
