House Guest

by Kristina Woodhill

I knew there was something
special
about mad scurrying sounds
in the pantry

something hyper
determined
a joie de burrowing
a bon mot directed at delicate chewing

dark with no cream
sipping scorned,
straight
to mainlining dry grounds

oh, the irony
of a non-coffee drinker
to have on shelf
coffee bags for unexpected guests!

might I also offer
a tiny piece of cheese appetizer
on a small rectangular cutting board

a spring, you say
what spring?

Cute! You can send it/him to my place. I have a good mousing cat currently on the payroll. ;)
