Lime Green Metal Folding Chair by Kristina Woodhill
lime green metal folding chair
unfolded in your lawn, but bare
i see you from my path beyond
admire you in this bright spring air
you face
the fence
the lawn
the sky,
i envy
how your
virgin eye
must
view
your new
reality,
a world
about to
bud
for you are one unblemished piece
a speckless
smooth
unscratched
caprice,
so far
a bird
by-pass,
first class,
and not
one thud
of mud
lime green metal folding chair
i've half a mind to join you there
i'd jump the fence, i'd wade the pond
your cool, my warm, this derriere
but like
so many of my kind
who dread
unseens
who fret
behinds
of rustling
bushes
trembling
trees
I fear the sleeping dogs

Posted by Quentin S Clingerman on 03/13/15 at 07:49 PM You pull us into your reverie about a metal chair. Giving significance to a very simple thing. |
Posted by Laura Doom on 03/15/15 at 10:59 AM A metrical lullaby that dulls only its teeth right down to the bottom line...one for the 'f' list. |
Posted by Kris Mara on 04/01/15 at 02:03 PM fantastic...this dances down the page, not one word out of place...I have to go read it again now :) |
Posted by Philip F De Pinto on 04/13/15 at 01:38 PM Kristina. love the rhyme and the rhythm, coupled with that powerhouse last line, which fears leaping fences lest it disturb sleeping dogs. and yet the notion of lime green metal folding chairs are worth getting bit o'er and o'er. |
