Winter Shades of Blue by Quentin S ClingermanBlue as in depressive
All the cold, bone chilling
Staying indoors kind of blue
Wrapped in clothing to weigh one down
Dragging out to do what must be done
Hurrying back to the warmth of house
Looking for signs of Spring
Thinking of south as in key West or Phoenix
Anywhere where skies are warm with the sun's rays
Thanking God for heat and light
Books, magazines, even TV
To pass the long short cold, cold days
Winter shades of blue

Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 02/02/15 at 03:41 AM Nice capture Quentin. I was remarking to my ex the other day about suffering from the Winter blahs, and your poem sums it up perfectly. |
Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 02/03/15 at 01:11 AM The birds fly south - why don't we? :) I especially liked "to pass the long short cold, cold days". Hang in there, Quentin. We're all in this together. |
Posted by George Hoerner on 02/03/15 at 07:55 PM I live in GA so it is a short trip to FL where we have been for nearly a month now. It is nice hear in what they call 'winter'. At least get to see the grandkids for a while. Nice write 'Q'. |
Posted by Laura Doom on 02/15/15 at 11:57 PM I guess it's counter-productive to suggest chillin till Spring--as you can write poetry in shades of blue, then at least you're not snowed under... |
Posted by Philip F De Pinto on 02/17/15 at 01:16 PM my sentiments exactly, Quentin. winter is a young man's game. at my age, Winter is for the birds. Specifically for penguins, as all other birds have the sense to fly South or whereever it is they fly to get cozy and warm. |
