Pillow Talk by Kristina WoodhillI dare you
To write it all down
When Morpheus
Refuses harbor,
Mocks you with
Too much moon Man.
An impossibility, you say;
To wake from scant slumber
Brain rattling like a cage
As if to play at Shoot the Moons,
Rank fingers prying buried
Secrets, buried hurts, buried fears,
All eager on skinny clattering legs
To dance about,
An ensemble of zombie proportions
From someone who abhors
Gaping maws and slimy grasping claws;
A day over populated,
Too present spars with too past,
Lively marries off-kilter,
Thought drawers opening and closing on their own,
Chewing out dangling socks
Trying to escape unmatched entanglements;
One wonders how many nightless nights
Creates a static cuckoo world;
A magpie scrawks outside a callous bedroom window,
A breeze passes through
Carefree and uncaring;
Oh, breeze, carry me away! 06/10/2014 Posted on 06/10/2014 Copyright © 2025 Kristina Woodhill

| Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 06/11/14 at 10:23 AM I like how this piece brings in various (eclectic) elements under the banner of the title. To wake from scant slumber Brain rattling like a cage and nightless nights, sounds an awful lot like some of my nights, although now that I'm retired, I have the luxury of either sleeping in or napping to catch up on what I missed from 'dusk till dawn.' |

[awesome poetics....loved EVERY line!!!] |
| Posted by Ken Harnisch on 06/12/14 at 07:43 PM I have come to this offering three times Kristina and it fascinates me in the way i used to be intrigued by crystal pieces that reflected all the colors of the rainbow, and later, kaleidoscopes. My interpretation is it discuses the world of dreams, which some of the medicine I've taken lately seems to evoke in Technicolor and Cinemascope. The language is beautiful, the imagery gorgeous. The last line could be my own, it is so close to the way I feel right now. |

| Posted by Laura Doom on 08/30/14 at 11:40 AM A trauma to complement your equestrian talents--I have known some sleepless nights to be pleasurable, whether by design or displacement. This drafted draught will, I suspect, keep me awake for a while or more... |
