They Are out Shooting by Quentin S ClingermanRifles at the ready
Ammunition in tow
They have set out for some target practice
I didn't go
Not feeling up to standing
Concentrating on the target
Not ready for the language
That will issue from missing the mark
Wind, sun and a beautiful Spring day
They are out to enjoy shooting
Rifles at the ready
Ammunition in tow
Trusting all three will return safely
You know?
They Are out Shooting (c) 2014 Quentin Clingerman 03/22/2014 Author's Note: My housemate wanted me to go out with him and his cousin to do some shooting. It would have been fun except I am just not feeling well enough. Another time perhaps.

Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 03/23/14 at 02:45 PM Nice one Quentin. I think we've all missed our mark at times due to illness. Please send some of that warm weather this way. Thanks. :) |
Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 03/23/14 at 04:53 PM I enjoyed this very much, Quentin. The simplicity of it is engaging and being from a hunting and marksman family, I see this scene clearly. Those last two lines open thoughts to possibilities and the underlying dangers that I guess go along with any kind of "rifle" and "ammo" we might set out with. |
Posted by Laura Doom on 03/24/14 at 05:48 PM I feel it would be a good thing for us to keep guns confined to the realm of poetry...
'all three'; the target? |
Posted by Rachel Johnson on 05/21/14 at 12:17 AM I like this very much. Short, but right on target. |
