Rock and Row

by Clara Mae Gregory

Rock
or Row
the Boat.
This is
Everyman's
choice-
Unless
you know
how
to Float.

so true, Melanie, and yet if the only option was rowing, it would leave a poor boy no choice but to remain forever entrenched in his lowly digs in Tupelo and not elevated to Grace Land which was a big disappointment to me when I went to visit ten years ago, which leaves me to wonder, if rocking was worth the trip, but the Hillbilly Cat should have rowed instead and if he did, the world would be minus all that great music, at least the early stuff. I think it was Socrates that said, rowing does not a pelvis shake or a musician make, but only gets you to a destination and given the inflation of arriving at such a port, it makes one wonder if rocking is the better option? besides it would take quite a load off the boat. yes, boats have to be present and accounted for in this equation. it is only fair, given boats can never take the day off, only when men begin to rock, can they take a much needed rest. even the oars get a break in this case. nevertheless, however we choose, we can rest assured, those of us in the drink, that this poem definitely floats.
