White Wedding

by Nancy Ames

Snow flying rapidly sideways
looks like a bridal veil
for a skinny frigid female
marrying a fat old tycoon
who used to run a large
international corporation
called Ice Age Diamonds.

She plans to have him
dead, or at least dying,
by the springtime when
his body can be decently
buried under the warm
greengrass ground.

She can almost feel
the money clenched in
her slightly blue fingers.

But right now she is thinking,
"How can every frigging snowflake
in the world possibly be unique?"
It could be a real breakthrough.

Author's Note: I love Canada, but winter is a bitch.

I love the quirkiness of this.

What is the saying? better to be a rich widow, building Palatial retreats in Summery havens, than a poor spinster hitched to snow flakes, the all of which are unique. so are dollar bills unique, as are big fat tycoons, as are poems, there not being two alike in this wide world, as each varies somewhat in appearance and gullibility. I like the looks of this poem, which is certainly unique and wonderful.

Great concept, cleverly and humorously developed - I laugh while your arctic air woke us at minus 9 this morning in Idaho. Loved your skinny and fat contrast, the veil of snow, the sprinkling of diamonds, the future burial plans, the slightly blue fingers - what a wedding! Thanks for this.

This seems like the perfect POTD for this frigid winter day. Congrats!

Interesting poem. As a fellow Canuck, I can only empathize and agree with your Author's Note...especially this last (polar vortex) winter. :)
