It will never work out by Steve MichaelsThe heroes in your novels smile more than me, make splashy entrances and smell of leather and limes.
They care when you fall and run to catch.
They live or die over the sound of your "yes."
I like the wistful look in your eyes when southward geese interrupt your train of thought,
The way rain beads on your long black hair when you scramble for keys in a lonely and crowded lot
How you purr excitedly when I cup my hands around the backs of your skinny coltish thighs and whisper silly slogans into the small of your back
It will never work out between us as day dies to night
sun melts into ebony layers of misgiving and missed opportunity
We will fail amidst fervent embraces and red-lipped press
love too hard for long-term bliss
But If I did not give it a chance
then I would be remiss. 10/21/2013 Author's Note: Hi-de-hi-de-ho

Posted by Philip F De Pinto on 12/08/13 at 04:42 PM all I can say, Steve, is, that even if it doesn't work out, this is one fine piece of writing which is so rich in imagery and style that it never has to think to toil, i.e. to find a job, as it can very well manage to live and subsist on such wealth as is in your pen.

Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 07/07/16 at 04:58 PM Nope - change my "phrasing" to "images." Thanks again.
Posted by George Hoerner on 07/12/16 at 12:34 AM It will not workout for me. At my age the best I can ask for is to go as early as possible. I did enjoy your write and hope things work out sooner rather than later or never!
