Shell Shocked

by June Labyzon

I remember the nights we spoke,
when I would drift in and out
of our conversation
not really paying attention to my words
or if what I was saying made any sense,
or how often I repeated things.

Senseless banter propelling me
into my own imaginations.
I participated in the conversation at-hand,
spouting answers to your endless questions,
your causes.
though, I would rather have
been making love to you with my words.

Now,
Your silences are your causes.
They rage as thunderstorms in my ears.
The questions drenched
by the residue in my head.

So I sit here wordless, answerless.
Limbic coils swirl around in my
unconscious dampening my
discontented reality.

The answers lie
in the whites of the eyes
wide open to discover
once again
the senseless banter,
that closed my eyes
propelling me
into my own imaginations.

Very well done. My wife would love this one!

there is literally nill to do but adore this ode. You have touched something deep within yourself, and it resounds so soulfully. If I can equate words with grapes, I would say yours which you placed in our vat of understanding, you leave us to stomp and make of them our own particular and peculiar spirit and merrily do we sip and quaff and dance, inebriated with such to the soul, to the soul.

"Your silences are your causes" - my favorite line. That last stanza is brilliant - the eyes cannot lie.

Excellent poetic analogy of a relationship.
