Our Favorite Time Of Year

by Chris Sorrenti

 photo AutumnTreeEarly90sbyChrisSorrentiOttawaCanadaRED70.jpg

for Dawn

When Orion the hunter slowly rises in crisp evenings

To chase Scorpius from an ever darkening sky

When summer loses its humid sting

And the insects are all but history

Especially the biting kind

When days are pleasantly warm and sunny

And with the air conditioner finally turned off

When at night we can again sleep under covers

With a wide open window

And when in the morning

It becomes a little harder to get out of bed

When leaves begin to change their song

And together amid chestnut rain

Fall from their deciduous mothers

When in October the cycle is complete

And two birthdays follow only days apart

And when as a result of it all

Old lovers are once more made young

You bring those images to fine life with your words, good sir.

Nice, Chris, fall is becoming my favorite time, too. I especially like the parts about sleeping under the covers and the biting insects being gone. I also like the astrology references.

Agreed, I wish I could post pictures on here to show you the ones I took recently in Fort McMurray. The one time of year it is beautiful here for 3 days... it's already snowed.

I admire the mix of evergreens and show-off deciduous in these photos, Chris. Fall is my favorite time also. "When leaves begin to change their song And together amid chestnut rain Fall from their deciduous mothers" - my favorite lines. A nice piece of nostalgia, human mixing with nature. Thanks!

LOVE pictures0 they enhance your tale. I love the smell of air in the fall. Even though things are dying, air is crisp. Wondorful write!

Hey Chris. Way behind on this. My bad.

Anyway, I've always been a big fan of images juxtaposed with poetry, and these are some beautiful photos to match your beautiful words. Not sure if you took them but they remind me a lot of my hometown and the words themselves hit just as close. Love this. Excellent work.

Chris, Orion chasing Scorpius is a fine weave of words. Leaves changing their song, - love it! Love it all. I'm so glad you are you and you are here with your poetry!

your lyricism is still alive and well, Chris and what can I say about the photos but they are as crisp and colorfilled as this ode.
