Stones

by George Hoerner

i’ve been talking
to the pile of stones
that has surrounded
my feet for decades

thrown by those
well intentioned people
who have known me
or thought they did
and those who knew
just enough of me
to know they could
never like me

it hasn’t been
as one sided
as you might expect
a few of them
were scared
less by me than
what went through
their mind

a few, very few
of these stones
have been around
since the beginning
and they rarely speak

knowing as much
as they do they
tend to speak only
in a slow solemn tone

they repeat over
and over how it was
when they were born
so hot and every thing
so confusing

but they have listened
and learned over time
and now tell of a
beginning which has
no end

they speak only in eons
and a language that
entails no words
only feelings
of hot and cold
and slow change
and how they hope
to return to their
particle beginnings
in a mix that will
combine them
with their friends

I love the thought of "particle beginings" and wonder of all the imperceptible events that would have to occur to bring about such a thing as the universe we think we know, and all things within it.

Ponderings of stones - this is a real gem, George.

This is one of my very favorites of yours, George. What an image this creates....

This is timeless! I see that you do as much reflection as I do!

I find this to be a very fitting poem at the number one spot on the top ten list today.

"Let those who are without sin..." Excellent write George. And a thought=-provoking read as well.

There is blood in stones, that chills the heat of the moment...

A very intelligent write. And all is well with me, I hope the same for you. :)

...and I imagine bullets might have much the same opinion on origins, and the meaning of their trajectory, and where they find themselves come to rest...our fear is so hot and quick, and our weapons so cold and slow...ty for a great one, lk

Captivating expression of introspection and extraspection, George, especially in the usage of stones.

an absolute stunnner this ode is for me. it speaks so much truth that it it is difficult to absorb its entirety. but absorb I must for i have lived this ode, am still living its truth.
