Forever smiles of you! by Lori BlairWe rode that same old bus
strangers then from when
we'd grown from one till us
and though you drove us all
a million miles it seemed
that distance became pea-sized
as you befriended us all
with that ease of yours that most
would never have cared
to try
And now we know
such a loss is not just yours or ours
but once and again the same
you came and picked us up that day
but now that old unspoken bus
will never drive that right of way again
and who can deny a loss that felt
never meant to be until that day
that old bus stopped for you
and you, alone
You came our way in the past
you came our way in present too
you came our way in futures too
and deep inside I know you feel it too
So no goodbyes, no cries
just forever moments of truth
no rain, no shame
just forever smiles of you
forever smiles of you
and just as many thank yous!
no doubt it's so
for the soul we know you to be!
And now we are on our own
a bus without a steering wheel
each turn, each pass, each stop
a fearful exchange we feel each day
and now we pass uncertainty
but no matter where we are to go
you will hold our souls so dear
year to year, a friend, is a friend
no matter the distance we
now go
Because,
you came our way in the past
you came our way in present too
you came our way in futures too
and deep inside I know you feel it too
So no goodbyes, no cries
just forever moments of truth
no rain, no shame
just forever smiles of you
forever smiles of you
and just as many thank yous!
no doubt about it
for the soul we know you to be!
and how could we ever forget?
a soul as good as yours!
we won't!
unspoken or released!

Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 03/17/12 at 02:15 AM I especially like that pea-sized distance. Whether this is a metaphorical bus driver or literal, you carry the idea through so well. I also like the melding of past, present, futures in this. Nicely done, Lori. |
Posted by Philip F De Pinto on 03/17/12 at 07:57 PM nobody expresses it quite like you, Lori. this is quite the journey from one to us to we, from one to a community of feeling and emotions conjured and shared by one morphed into all to feel, the way it was meant to be. no, we who are the product of one, never truly lose anyone forever or for long, given there is a heart e'er pointing clearly to fond recollection. |

Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 03/20/12 at 03:37 AM Wow! This is really beautiful and positive Lori. It totally sums up my own feeings towards my recently departed friend. Perhaps you would let me read it to her someday. Thanks for posting this. :o) |
