Problem Solving

by Kristina Woodhill

Enduring,
an elephant
sits on my head,

trunk dangles
lazily
grazing my bed;

I'm trying
to meditate,

find that it's getting late,

fazed
by this elephant
perched on my head;

one tusk
plus
two tusk,

it sorts
through
my shelves,

seeking some
semblence

intrigued
by my selves;

I shift
a bit,

nudge
a budge
to unsit

the elephant,
massing its
thoughts
as it delves;

I'd like to think
that I make
sense to him,

I'm not just soft padding

I'm not just squished whim;

my third eye
is focused,

my legs
crossed,
a lotus

compressed
by the
stress

of his
con
sid
er
ing;

clear
ing
my mind

I discard
words
that plea,

mentally shake loose
a wish
I could flee

instead
I
visualize

answers
in super size,

mammals
(send rodents, please!)

those
that eat
cheese

Author's Note: I swear sometimes I write just to hear nonsense rhyme. ;)

whatever that nonsense you hear keep jotting it down because it's working for you!

if this is not the perfect metaphor, I don't know what is? and where have you ever seen an elephant and a mouse share space in the same poem? and hopefully it is not presumptuous of me to assume that elephants love cheese too and that mice love peanuts? and so after all is said and done, what is not to love about this ode to love?

For myshelf, writing can be both elephant and the means to ignore it, rendering your meditative metaphor as one that eats itself--no cheese required, as demonstrated here...
