Sonnet to Oding

by Kristina Woodhill

I am a dragonfly, I gad about,
My eyes as wide as Kitt Peak's probing dome;
Earth's Blazing Star and cousins serve as home;
If oding is your thing, please check me out.
To catch me, snatch at what is come, soon gone,
For haikus, I might light, display spread wings,
Inspire, insinuate a moment's “Ping!”
Ephemeral, faze brows, preface a song
That drifts, I snag its ride, its riffs beguile
These dangling six, these legs attempt a chord,
Quick strums resound to add to notes on board
This spinning record's long-play atmos-file.
Oh, ode to oding, let this sonnet sing,
Enchanted by my humming dragon wings.

Sonnet and ode combined, with a nod to haiku. Love the first line. Super job!

Captivating, simply captivating, as are the dragonflies of which you write.

It's that first line that gets me - "I am a dragonfly, I gad about" - one perfect line. Of course as others have said, the rest is pretty good too. But I wish I had written that first line :)

Very nice Kristina. Excellent tempo and imagery. As I've said to others, among my favourite insects.

A strewing of wonderment and bedazzlement on the mind's carpet, And who could resist piecing together this live wire, breathing fire, in so grounding, not raising alarm but soothing as balm. Consistent with verse, thank you Kristina, always for your Odic efforts.
