Scarecrow

by V. Blake

oh, you gorgeous little ghost story...
you can keep on screamin' for that rain
 till your bones crack and the sky goes deaf;
ain't nothin' gonna wash you away.

ain't no one gonna let you live this down.

 there's a damn good reason
you never see heartbreakers at funerals.
 there's an even better one
behind the way your nightmare-black dress
looks more innocent than the girl it embraces.
while i suspect that you don't need me
 to remind you of either,
i do wonder how long you'll take to notice
that this is the kind of thing
 houses get haunted for.

 and darling,
if the heavens should ever hint at mercy,
know that i'll be there watching
for the clouds to spit you back out
as soon as gravity starts feeling spiteful

(even if it's more than you deserve.)

Excellent...very intense piece of work Vince. Would make a fine poem at Halloween, though horror needs no special day as you've so brilliantly exhibited.

PS: Did the painting inspire your poem???

I really like this: " if the heavens should ever hint at mercy, know that i'll be there watching for the clouds to spit you back out as soon as gravity starts feeling spiteful"

I love how these two pieces embrace each other, and how they enhance each other, but as we are here for tbe poems, it must be said this piece needs no picture, ur words are thoughtful screenplays, ur narrator brutal and enticing...a pleasure to read u again :) -jewels

wonder what she did..? the two pair very well together, and wonder like chris, if the painting was inspiration, or if they just happen to match up-ish? very awesome write on it's own!

Intense and foreboding. I like all that the title suggests and how the poem expands on that and how the "nightmare-black dress" instills the personality. Thank you.

Stunning and intense; love that opening line. beautiful bitterness - not an easy combination, but you've managed it perfectly. This goes into the faves, so I don't lose it.

Vinceman, you sure do know how to send a volley with class. I too like the way the graphic and the poem complement each other. Beautifully laid out description of what karma might lie ahead. Thanks.

Note to self, I never want to be on your bad side....this poem's intense, and downright scary. To the person who said "wonder what she did" I would guess it had something to do with love/betrayal, but then again with the way this poem is written, maybe the voice is a bit nuts lol.
