Ready to Start

by Chris Sorrenti

the Lady Gaga period has ended
though Poker Face
will always have its privileged place
on the CD rack

welcome to the era of Arcade Fire
Ready to Start a new lifestyle
the chains of sitting too much sitting
soon broken for a summer of fun

doctor’s orders of course
for more exercise to live off the grid
I’ll don a pair of roller blades
with all the protective gear

escape the businessmen
who drink my blood
and the emperors
that wear no clothes

sail the sidewalks
with digital SLR in hand
gather up countless images
of butterflies and Cardinal

catch the Sun at that very moment
it pours down a skyscraper
and yes there will be Poetry
as I give thanks for the new blood

beneath tiger striped helmet
a pair of headphones
strapped to my head
playing Indie Rock’s latest gods

saw them win Album of the Year
at the Grammys
and from that point forward
I was Ready to Start

Daaaamn, Chris, this is GOOD! I watched the video first. It and your poem were an education for this old stick in the mud. You are so very hip. (Is that term still "in" enough to be understood?) I love the mix of music, pop culture and the allusion to the emperors and businessmen who drink your. I see you riding into the sun pouring down from the skyscraper... that part of the poem is simply brilliant. Love this. Love it. It is good to again discover you.

The segues in this are so smooth. It gains momentum as the music pushes you along and I love how it ends Ready to Start. Thank you!

I bow to Glenn and Kristina. Not at all hip to pop culture and pop music. Certainly caught the significance of emperor's lack of clothes and "cut throat" businessmen.
