Seek the Sun

by Glenn Currier

The work of the day over
in the car for the long trek home
from habit he reaches for his cell
to call her.
But she is not there.

He feels the warmth of tears
fill the creases of his face
the slow swelling sadness
settles in like an early twilight mist
and the soft deep knell of night.

His mind an aged orphan
meanders through purple woods
and lights on a gleam of clematis
in conversation with ghosts
who have encountered the sun.

Percolating from the nowhere
he has been too long
a precious desire for nectar
a scent of ecstasy
and a voice emerging…

Seek the sun.

About time you returned to us, Glenn. Way to remind everyone of why you were missed! (Even though you made me look up a word in "clematis.")

We find ghosts in dappled leaves and unfurled blossoms, the clean scent mingling with the remembered taste of goodbye and sound of absence, a bittersweet recollection amidst the beauty of of that voice on the other end of the line...lovely piece, Glenn.

Very nicely done Glenn. I have no doubt that she approves.

Beautiful, beautiful and a little bit of awesome-as-hell for the hell of it. Well done indeed.

...and who can stop the river from flowing to the ocean or love from finding its light...
Your poem moves me more than words can say, Glenn.

Sad...haunting...beautiful, but not overbearing. I like this very much Glenn; well deserved to be #1. You have proven yourself once again a serious and talented poet.

You visit that place we all have to deal with, missing loved ones and friends. I like the everyday habits that introduce this and then the realization. My fav is the clematis stanza - quite magical. Thank you for this. Jan would have loved it also.

Tender without sentimentality. I agree with Chris there is a haunting sadness. But there is also in the last stanza a great feeling of consolation and hope.
