RACCOON EYES

by Steven Kenworthy

tonight i want to re-write your tan lines
and disappear into a jungle of carelesness
with a fine-point mind.
raccoon eyes, you’re having the darkest time.

you opened grimm’s fairy tales
you closed the book.

you want to leave your legacy in cain and fables
you don’t understand the bible.

you take advantage like tennis matches
i am the beneficiary of your stoicism.

40-love, i am decades less, you are dry as dust
this is your baptism.

let’s walk on rooftops;
the sidewalks are looking down on you.
the sky holds the limit the ground is inevitable.
painful little swan,

i feel amazingly bad for you, i feel amazing.
you are next year’s oil spill. full throttle mistake agency,
you are the president.
you have raccoon eyes, you’re having the darkest time.

Once again you wow me. Say a little prayer for me, Worthy. Were I gainfully employed, I would DEFINITELY go Worthy shopping. You are in my top ten all time favorite poets. I would adore to have the extra cash to blow some on owning some worthiness.... Highest marks and my pick for POTD, btw.

Loved the play with words here - the raccoon's face is a perfect canvas to rearrange or use for definition. Neat. Your images are more controlled - I like the quick two liners, and had to chuckle at your even bringing in current events with oil spills and the very funny/stunning line "you are the president". Thank you.

I like this Stephen. Refreshingly different, and yes dark, but in a good way. I checked out your photo store, and there's some incredible artwork there. Quite unique. I especially like the one with the eiffel tower in the distance.

Congratulations on POTD. And thank you for these extraordinary images.
