Cut Throat

by Clara Mae Gregory

The shrieks will soon be slain

by bleeding the tympanic vein.

Clorox bleach removes the stain

the penetrating knife proclaims.

But never can erase the pain

that lets the words twistings reign.

Powerful, and made eerie and prophetic by your rhyming scheme.

wow. what power and force in this, and written beautifully. hope all is well with you.

Michael is quite right -the way this sort of chants itself through my brain makes it that much more intense and eerie...it's rather chilling the way you put this together and I love the impact that it makes!

... wow... words fail.....

Very powerfully and thoughtfully written. Glad to add the highest ratings to it I can choose from. Reads like it's lubricated with dripping tears.

"that lets the words twistings reign"--->this says it all. Brilliant.

a very powerful and penetrating piece...the rhyme is almost sinister in nature, jabbing again and again, like the knife...well done, poet...ur words do resonate, peace, jewels

That persistent end-of-line rhyme pattern punches this one home. Loved the "words twistings" - ouch!!

Like Therese wrote... intense and a solid impact.
Seems as though this poem got plucked in the throat. How ironic.

The title has interesting physiological/metaphoric overtones, and the final line imparts its internal twist with great rhythmic effect. Perhaps not sweet, but definitely not short on impact :>
Does it even fulfil its own prophesy...

You said a great deal with an economy of words. Excellent write- good images!

Yes, one can 'cut the throat' but the thought remains. This piece is well written, dark and biting.

You make vivid and penetrating the way words twistings can cut. I agree that the rhymes add to the impact and evoke the feel of twisting. Thanks, Mel.

short but sweet, as revenge can only be....loved this, eerie, poignant....to the point.

this is powerhouse and contemplative stuff, Melanie. the sheer electrical pull and charge and tug of it torrents the mind.
