The Catcher in the Rhyme

by Amie Golda

I'm biding my time,
Living on a swagger
I drink in the world around me.

Tapping my foot
like the tic of the second hand,
I wait in patience between the shadows

Words will come to me when they will
From here and there,
Snippets of humanity or mind played games
That creep along the edges of our precious golden time.

And the laughter will fall into place
When my pen touches its tip to the space
Of the mem'ries yet unbroken by time
and the feelings still not numbed by wine

And when my words come, they'll come with a flavor.

Author's Note: Pure nonesense title, I know. But don't get me wrong, I love JD Salinger's materpiece :)

Believe it or not I thoroughly enjoy the title -- definitely caught my attention. The piece itself was masterful, and definitely a fulfillment of the title. Great work here, Amie, I'm looking forward to reading more. :)

...amie, a delight rendention of a Salinger-ness write, i share that. that of the Catcher definitely caught me... i was in the seventh grade when, by accident, i discovered CatcherintheRye...and i was hooked, wrote a book in that style and he would be proud of your emulation of his style. and for a young writer which you seem to be, you out-do yourelf. a great write. great. cool.

Very clever title. I like it. I like the idea of catching rhymes and words in the spaces between the moments and the people in our lives. Poems about writing are always interesting to me. Thanks, Amie.

"living on a swagger", wow that alone is brilliant, Amie. But I like the whole of this, it is very much commentary on poetry, and a personal affirmation. And oersonally, I'm suggesting, poem of the day. Very good stuff. Delighted, Thanks.

I can hear this clearly as a song. Loved the title and all that followed, especially that last line. Thank you and congrats on POTD!

Congrats on being high on the Top 10, Amie. This poem is excellent and could very well make it to the top. I really like the knowing confidence in this poem. The writer is most definitely seasoned and speaks true of something identifiable to all us poets. Very well crafted, and exhibiting of said flavor.

I absolutely love this -the word 'swagger' says it all...this poem is just bravado and cheek and whistling merry tunes...thank you so much for sharing!
