What Luck

by Glenn Currier

Why am I surprised
by my ability to lose
at Shanghai rummy?

The child’s exuberant
dreams and fantasies
bubble up popping
droplets of sun
on my nose
and eyelashes.

The lucky landings
on my bumpy plains:
a wife who loves me
a home filled
brimming
memories
embraces
love making
poem creating
soft cat bellies
ivy stitching green
cool air in August
wind chimes
sounding peace
cardinals and jays
doves and squirrel
sharing the wealth.

What idiocy
belching
I’m unlucky.

A very cool and insightful way to count your blessing. An inventory that should be done on a regular basis. As far as luck goes, I guess I just think it's bad luck to be superstitious. Delighted. Thanks.

Yes, we seem to have so much! What I really may never understand is how children in the greatest squallier in the world also seem to be able to find some joy and appreciation of life. That to me is really amazing. Good write Glenn.

I hope Glenn, you don't mind if on top of all the luck you are experiencing in your life I pour some more. More luck to you my friend and all the time in the world to write and to love. What more can a cat want in this life? a softer belly?

"sharing the wealth" = I suspect you do this with all things, creating your own luck. I enjoy the listing of those things important to you. Stanza 2 is magical. Those last few lines keep us on our toes and grateful. Thank you.
