clouds of laughter

by Charlie Morgan

the top of the cloud roared
with a laughter that was deep;

i chose to quit tickling its
underside, but a feint motion
made it flinch and the rain
poured. it was my fault.
i had left the lid up;
all matter coalesced.

the Sun broke through,
and the top of my head
started giggling;

i had pennies to spend
the rest of the day.
no stores were open.

That's exactly why I don't worry about saving for any sort of a rainy day. It's all about being in the moment, because from what I can tell, it's all we really have. I like the implied, rather than direct, references in this, Charlie. And I like the idea of you giggling off the top of your head.

You sure know how to get my giggles going Chaz. "it was my fault. i had left the lid up;" if that's not about a porcelain throne, it made me laugh like it was anyway... you boys tend to do that... and we girls fall in. heheheeee.... love this Chaz! my pick for potd. spend your pennies with me darlin, in poetry like this, worth millions (of giggles).

I really enjoyed the metaphor of the top of your head giggling.

Though short, it tells well the details of how we succumb to those moments that we mistakenly reserve for rainy days.

Terrific poem, Mr. Morgan, thank you.

Someday I'll tell the tale of the lid that was left up and the repercussions of that incident. It was a laughable rainy day for sure, back in my biker chick dayz. ;-)

"the Sun broke through, and the top of my head started giggling;" Those lines are golden.

I have enjoyed the rain, but your poem tells me there was so much more there that I missed. But... I didn't miss it because here I am - you raining your giggles on me. Your rays lighten me. Now if I could figure out how to make them burn calories, I would be set. Love it, Chaz.

Excellent combination...interaction between you and the environment Charlie. Tickling always adds an amusing touch (pardon the pun) to any humorous poem. Hat's off ta ya. :o)

PS: Highly (another pun haha) appropriate title BTW. Adds to favorites.

My new favorite of yours - I had not seen this one! Thank you for this loud laughter - much needed, and the pennies you were so rich with, I suspect you spent sharing with the rest of us. Nice one, Charlie! Thank you.
