I call him Ernest

by Glenn Currier

Demon is its common name
not Damon or Raymond
and Incubus seems lame.

Others like dragon
for its fierceness
and big tail waggin.

He surely is the devil
cause he can bring ya down
to an abysmal level.

Satan has celebrity rank
and God knows he can
slam ya in the stinkin tank.

When I call him Pipsqueak
to deride and debunk the skunk
I'm hopin to make him weak.

Known for his pride and lies
control and addiction affliction
ego is his best disguise.

But he is the sternest
when I underrate him
so I have named him Ernest.

It’s a funny way to name it
hope its not yours
I’m just tryin to tame it.

So I’ll give it the shaft
and kick its big fat ass
with a wee grin and a laugh.

LOL! Yes, no matter the name one gives it, you've invented a new type of exorcism here Glenn; that of the poetic kind.

What a poetic treat dressed to the nines, mydear! I love the portrait view you drew for ole sixsixsix in your sixth stanza. Ernest in earnest and straight into my favorites too! Thanks a million for all the chuckles you loaded in this.

Great... my middle name became your demon... lol ah well - c'est la guerre. I hope he doesn't cause too much trouble. If he gets too ornery just give him a tug on the ear (the left one); that should set him straight. Great read Glenn. Thanks for sharing.

Glenn, I don't think you could have chosen better weapons to do battle with, than the one's you've selected. I think a wee grin and a laugh are the most useful ego reducing tools one can buy for free.
