You Should Whisper by Ken HarnischYou should whisper, she says
Too much noise
May intrude
On this peace I’ve found;
This night in which I dream.
So I whisper
In the way
I did before
In the long ago,
In the far away
And the words are vespers of
The past, but they speak
Of now, while she yearns for the future
Then, though she cannot say what
“Then “ is or will be.
It is not mine, this “then”
But surely
The whispers remind her
That the words,
The ones I write
(And not in whispers)
Are still as longing
And always, and forever,
Hers. 01/20/2009 Posted on 01/20/2009 Copyright © 2025 Ken Harnisch

Posted by George Hoerner on 01/20/09 at 02:57 PM This is great Ken. It is done with such a hushed tone as if you were in a library, almost as if you are afraid she will hear the words. Well done.

Posted by Kate Demeree on 01/24/09 at 06:24 PM I sit here reading this and smile a soft smile.... a whisper always gets one's attention. How evocative this is... sensual. There is a longing here that can be felt by the reader. Beautiful poetry, Poetman!
Posted by Julie Adams on 01/26/09 at 06:02 AM wonderful piece, deserving at the top of the top rated list...how this piece whispers to the reader things long after the lines are read...this piece speaks volumes, and yet in reading it is silent...wonderful expression of tone, context, and devotion...a pleasure to read and reread, allowing the words to whisper in the subconscious...peace, jewels
