Leaf

by Glenn Currier

On the cusp of October
he has fallen
from his emerald glory
and lays undistinguished
among the brown corpses.

Now he waits
for the battering winter rains
to rot his body
its atoms hidden
in the landscape.

Can I make this leaf my teacher
coronate his humility
honor his anonymous service
beatify the green moments
he gave the Elm
whose life he revealed?

Oh sainted leaf
you are my model.
May I live and die
embracing the tiny truth
of my life
but a cherished instant
in His-story.

This is so meaningful, Glenn. I love it, that tiny little leaf and his return to the earth, only to nourish that which birthed him. Lovely!

I keep coming back to this one. You have added an extra layer to the simple life cycle of leaves, using them as examples we could all follow.

Fresh and brilliant in its own Autumn glory Glenn. A pleasure to read as this is my favorite time of year. Thanks buddy! :o)
