flagging

by Mary Frances Spencer

wealth diminishes
each moment
zigzagging down into
the red

so much blood spilled
angry winds and waves wrecking
fear hate
bashing doesn’t win
just bruise
eyes don’t see through
media clouds

none of us are
white

just sad really
this inability
to share

to join
true religious forces
with peace

love harmony
coexistence
hope
love

buried
in the unfurled

blue

Author's Note: I'm having a hard time with this election and all of the negativity when so much is at stake... MFS

The title is so perfect with so many meanings. I can't even write about all of this here, but your poem and the line "none of us are white" is dead on.

From an outsider's point of view, mud slinging aside, I see a lot of charisma, but not much substance between the two parties. Canada also goes to the polls October 14th. Interesting times we live in as your poem aptly points out.

I feel the longing and sadness in this poem. And you know, I think it is those two feelings that are really underneath so much of the anger expressed in the media and by our people. Thank you for expressing what I could not. Wonderful poem.
