Please Feed the Birdies by Mary Ellen Smith
I love that God has filled the trees with birds of every song.
If one should linger long enough, the birds shall fly along.
Perhaps the breasted Robin, He’ll be calling “tuk, tuk, tuk.”
Or maybe the Mountain Bluebird if one has any luck.
The sparrows never disappoint, they sing the whole day through.
Come find a place under a tree and they will sing for you.
God has his eye on all of them, summer, spring and fall.
And in the winter too of course, He feeds them one and all.
But when the snow is falling, and the eaves are frilled with ice
Won’t you please feed the birdies? Now wouldn’t that be nice?
Scattered seed atop the snow, sunflower or thistle.
Maybe you will be the one to hear a happy whistle.
Oh, winter here my feathered friends and I’ll build a house for you.
Together we will brave the storms, this winter, me and you. 07/11/2008 Author's Note: looking forward to a snowy winter......
