adversus solem ne loquitor

by Anne Engelen

mind over matter never mattered
till separation reared an ugly head
stretching that connection from
pole to pole to me to you
was the only thread that held
and the only line I could follow to
figure what home was supposed to be…

at night I connected
the dots between the stars
creating a web, a safety net
to keep loneliness from crashing
like a compass they guided me to
you, my true north

home is where the heart is
you are holding mine
and I am holding to that
to keep me strong when you
are weak and keep my head
when you are losing yours

in those kaleidoscopic times
fragments of ourselves are scattered
yet as the earth slowly turns
the universe follows
our colours blend together
and everything falls into place
proving that we are stronger than
the sum of our parts
even a world away.

your words Anne, have always amazed and they've always delighted and nothing has changed. lucky lucky lucky fellow's got your heart which is more precious than any metal.

Wow, those last three lines take me out of the blessed ether of those above and anchor me in a robust and rooted creative attachemnt. Well done and a joy to read.

...i's afraid to read this 'cause it may be in french, nahaha, but it wasn't and twas a joy[existentially speaking]to read in that you could name it[the physical loss] of yourmatey, your heart and [dig this! "...fragments of ourselves are scattered yet as the earth slowly turns the universe follows our colours blend together..." we're pre-galileo[everything revolves around the earth[us] ] because we are solipsitic and God-given in that belief...the pome: i like, i like...a person in control, or trying to be... oh, i do try...i think the cosmos is giggling at me tho...nahahaha, good write

You've taken some common cliches and turned them into a very engaging and romantic poem.

Beautiful. What a testimony of true love and the power to be more with someone special. What is adversus solem ne loquitor?
