Depression's Swan Song

by Alisa Js

slumped in my skin, deeper within
I'm crumbling, even falling apart
searching for answers where no questions exist
I must be losing my mind
coherency's made it's final escape ...

haunted by memories, stunted by dreams
always one step delayed,
and I'm sliding behind sanity's vein
as I look for another hit and miss ...

is this all that's left to living?
for three years I've fought the great fight,
yet, here I stand, mired in sinking sand
and I'm way beyond tired, blew past exhaustion
everyone comes near to take, never give ...

maybe I'll lay down
leave town and simply disappear
nothing left for me here, anyhow
options, options, we all talk about options
options for everyone, except me
I am done ...

You. And also your deep beautiful poetry.

This is an accurate picture of that Beast, Depression. Your poem brilliantly and starkly delivers the accompanying feelings of darkness and desolation. —Jill

Sinking down, no options, forever sinking ... I DO know the feeling Alisa. Depression is not always just a passing feeling. When you feel 'trapped' in it ... you feel like a goner. This is a very good display of emotion.

*Hug* I just wanted to come near and give you that and tell you this is a beautiful poem describing what we all pass through sometimes. Sometimes it lasts a while, too. My daughter has been in a depression for a couple of weeks now as well. It's my prayer that He will make His face to shine on you both so the darkness will flee.

Powerful. Your writing gets better with every read.

A very powerful piece - quite awesome about this awful illness.

I guess most all of us have been there at some point in their lives. For me it was the end of my teens, finding my identity and not liking the imperfections that make us all who we are. Wonderful Sweet Alisa!

I can strongly relate to this in terms of thoughts...introspection when I go through my own periods of depression. Nicely put into words Alisa.
