Her Hands

by Genevieve Sturrock

he loved her hands
for they were
the outlet for what
made her unique

through her hands
their house was a home
renovating, decorating
cleaning and cooking

her hands soothed
their crying son
and gave him
reason to behave

she was talented
with her hands
making works of art
out of ordinary things

fabric, yarn, wire
are transformed
once touched
by her hands

her hands moved
when she talked
for she expressed
herself through them

and her hands
featherlight and hot
on his skin could
drive him insane

but he loved
her hands the most
when they were
still and quiet

for that was when
they were held
gently within
his own hands

Amazing...ordinary yet extraordinary.
Plus - anything that distracts from feet has my appreciation :)

I like that you made a woman's hands instead of her heart the focus of this poem. It is with our hands that we give of ourselves and you expressed it beautifully.

I can only agree with all of the above. Lovely

Good to see this as POTD! I'm reminded of all that hands can do. Lovely to read again.
