Please continue with yourself...

by Elizabeth Jill

Please continue with yourself
when winter tells you, "no."
I splash my arms around you
I will not let you go.

This is what my friend meant
upon the envelope
written —like a festival arriving
fragrant, fresh with hope.

And while I wept through sunset,
she gathered all its paints
then poured them in one gentle note
a festival of paints.

And, who am I? —to pass to you
a note out of the blue?
A biographer of green red yellow
violeting every hue.

Please continue with yourself
when winter tells you, "no."
I splash my arms around you
I will not let you go.

Hi Jill. There is something comforting about, "Please continue with yourself"...it's like, just what the doctor ordered??? It cannot be bad advise! Delighted. Thanks.

Hi Elizabeth, It's lovely. Yes, refreshing too. The picture goes with it very well. Great write. :)

You've painted a poem of elemental and fantastic mix, where the unusually expressed "splash" is such reviving comfort, as is the advice, and the arrival of such a gift from a friend. It is a most colorful, inspiring spring of a "yes" of a poem that ever answered a blustery "no". And love your paintbrush (resilient) poet's tree.

Fortunate, indeed, is the friend to whom you give this. How beautiful and reassuring!

Full of bright and vivid colors to keep the festival of paints alive. "Please continue with yourself," my friend.

A seemingly simple yet beautifully written poem. I love rhyming poems, especially like this one where the words are not forced, compromising the feel or rhythm. Excellent!!!

Jill, such a beautiful, gentle voice here. It's like breath going in and out during meditation. Yet, there's a quiet strength in it, that offers support and determination. The photo you have here is perfect, because like the tree bending in the wind, we sometimes have to do that in life. After reading this several times, I understand - it's about spring's determination to come inspite of winter's harshness. And its symbolic of anything we go through in life that challenges us and wants us to quit. Saying "no" is not an option in the drive for success. Beautiful and uplifting.

...the alphabet was used-up by the wonderful peeps above, and michelle said it! ...what i could/would say...the little poignancy is a sharp edged, hard-stay-on thingee, some of us call it 'just happy' others call it 'pleased with life'... it's a point of 'seeing' with one's third eye...wasn't going to be this wordy, forget what i say and just read michelle's again...this is paper-publishable...peace, chaz

Yes, I felt there was much here sketched between the lines - the echoing colours of many questions seasoned by blustery winds...I blow warm wishes in your direction Jill :)

The image of you splashing your arms around someone is so vivid. It's beautiful.

Beautiful.. all the worlds, all the joys. The colors remind me of rangolis drawn on south Indian thresholds in early morning; they always felt to me not a ritual, but a defying, that come on day now I shall embrace you.
