Posted by Kathleen Wilson on 02/01/07 at 05:43 PM Whew... a twenty year anniversary too. You must have set this to music? What an equation you have here... the cancelling out, and the zero looming. Effective and enduring. |
Posted by Alisa Js on 02/01/07 at 05:47 PM After reading this one, Chris and thinking of the contrast described... you could almost be describing the actions of one who is bi-polar...I recognize the symptoms as know of some people who are bi-polar and one of my very close family friends is currently going through a divorce with his wife of seven years who is bi-polar and this poem seemed to describe their relationship to a tee.. hmmmm...thanks for sharing.. aloha to you from across the Pacific...;-0 |

Posted by Gregory O'Neill on 02/01/07 at 07:21 PM Hi Chris. Seems this is from a time when that relationship teetered on the brink. I remember this feeling personally. Now years later, it still all seems a bit unreal. Thanks. |
Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 02/01/07 at 10:03 PM The simple contrasts here of hot and cold and night and day are quite effective. The one really doesn't have a full meaning without the other. |
Posted by Joan Serratelli on 02/02/07 at 03:12 PM I think alot of people can relate so welll to this piece. It rings true on so many levels. Great write! |
Posted by Laurie Blum on 02/03/07 at 07:39 PM This would make a great ballad. Very lyrical. |
Posted by JD Clay on 02/04/07 at 01:55 AM I could feel the repercussions back in '87, all the way over here. Thought it was the New Madrid fault line acting up, hehe! Great juxtoposition, bro! |
Posted by Christel Crews on 02/05/07 at 07:54 PM i immediately thought of the song "night and day.. you are the one" so of course, i was intrigued to find struggle for answers of a love that might have run its course.. you've captured the questions very well here that i've heard many couples go through.. |
Posted by Gabriel Ricard on 02/06/07 at 05:27 AM I miss 1987.
Heh.
A pleasure to read, as always. |
Posted by Maureen Glaude on 02/06/07 at 03:00 PM I thought I'd commented already, but I see I didn't. I suspect we're all guilty at times of sudden mood swings or attachment shifts, that leave others cold. And it is like a slap on the face. Good coverage, Chris.

Posted by Kyle Anne Kish on 02/07/07 at 06:51 PM Chris, such a lament-full poem which carries through years of turmoil, tears and happiness ... which, in the end asks ... why and have we outgrown each other? I think you speak for many married couples in a most poetic fashion. Beautifully done. |
Posted by Tony Whitaker on 02/07/07 at 09:46 PM Contrast used superbly and the flow so eloquesnt. Chris, this is a thought provoking look at how any relationship can face! Exquisite yet simple! |
Posted by Mara Meade on 02/08/07 at 02:36 PM Thought-provoking. Interesting how extremes complement but leave much between to navigate. |
Posted by Rusty C Arquette on 02/09/07 at 01:10 PM Emotion portrayed in the stark use of words...it makes the impact of the theme strong and poignant. For those of us who have gone through such pain or know others who have gone through such a situation, you have painted an accurate and unsettling picture that comes off the page as a haunting reminder of how life can surprise us. - RCat |
